My research interests span a range of issues relating to glaciers, tree-rings and climate change in southern Alaska.  My recent work has focused on how climate has changed over the past 2000 years and on using tree-ring crossdates of glacially killed trees to reconstruct glacier fluctuations during this interval.  I am also interested in the dynamics of tidewater (iceberg-calving) glaciers and how the geomorphology of their termini can affect their dynamics during advance. Locally I am interested in the geomorphology and Pleistocene glacial history of New York State.  My projects have included the evidence (or lack thereof) for post-Laurentide local glaciation in the Adirondack High Peaks, landscape history of central New York, stream channel migration in glaciated valleys, and development of tree-ring chronologies from historical structures.
