Reflection is at the heart
of the Senior Seminar. You will be reflecting for four main purposes:
to introduce the writing in your portfolio; to comment on the work of
your peers; to explore yourself as a writer in both formal and informal
ways; and to assess the Professional Writing program. Each of the individual
pieces of writing you have done for the portfolio will have an accompanying
reflection. You will also be keeping an informal account of your own
sense of yourself as a writer. Many of these reflections may become
a part of your portfolio, but some will be purely for you.
Not only will you be reflecting
on your own work, but you will also be reflecting on the work of others
in the course. Peer review will be a major component of your
work in the course. Throughout Senior Seminar, students will post drafts
of their work on the web, and peers will write thoughtful reflections
on those drafts. Students will use these reviews as editorial support
and will use selections from these reviews as part of their portfolios.
You
will be filling out a survey of the Professional Writing program.
It, too, is an opportunity for you to reflect. Before you get a grade
in the Senior Seminar, you will need to fill out this survey and turn
it in to your professor. The information that you provide will help
us strengthen the program and will help you to reflect on your experience
as a student.
