Purposes and Objectives

Purposes

The Senior Seminar is your chance to collect your work from the courses you've taken in the Professional Writing major and to reflect on what you have learned as a result of doing this work. It is a course that gives you time to ask questions about what has happened to you as a Professional Writing major.

  • You might ask yourself-- What makes this poem so effective?
  • You might ask yourself--How does this wonderful essay work?
  • You might ask yourself--What accounts for this clear set of instructions?
  • You might ask yourself-- How did I get here? How has this work changed me; how have I developed? Where am I going with my writing?

There are so many questions to ask. You will be generating these reflective questions as you compose your final web portfolio and evaluate your own work and the work of your peers. This reflection gives you a chance to come to know yourself better as a writer and a person, allows you to comment on the work of others, and helps Professional Writing faculty understand what parts of the program are working well, what parts we need to reconstruct, and what additional resources the program requires.
