It has been written that Betty Burfeindt is without a doubt talented enough to become a golfer with the stature of a Mickey Wright. She really has that kind of ability. And a beautiful swing, too. Late in 1968, Betty entered her first pro tournament as an amateur. “It was the LPGA’s last ’68 event and it was at Hollywood, Fl, “ she said. “I don’t remember where I placed but I would have won $200 if I wasn’ t an amateur. I was pretty excited about that. Then in January 1969, I entered the Burdine’s tournament in Miami. I broke 80 on all three rounds and would’ve won $200 again. That did it. I was hooked.” Four months later she was on the LPGA tour. She achieved only minimal success her first two years because of her deteriorating physical condition. The final 1970 event was in Houston, and Betty was forced to withdraw.
