I. OBJECTIVES
1.1- Students will read and comprehend
information from the pamphlet on the national park in Canaima, Venezuela.
1.2- Students will understand the written
language from the pamphlet, specifically definite artictles.
2.1,4.2- Students will discuss the similarities
and differences between national parks in the U.S. and Venezuela.
4.1- Students will understand the meaning
and uses of definite artictles in Spanish.
II. MATERIALS
-Canaima pamphlets
-Overhead projector
-Copies of pamphlet
-Overhead marker, blank overhead sheets
III. PROCEDURES
A. PRESENTATION:
1.
Discuss the location of Venezuela, and show students its location on the
map.
2.
Ask students about national parks in the U.S. Have they ever
visited a national park? Which ones?
3.
Hand out the copy of the pamphlet for students to look over.
4.
Students will read part of the pamphlet
that contains many examples of definite articles.
B. ATTENTION TO FORM:
1.
After reading the selection, underline selected words from the reading
on a transparency.
2.
Read selection a second time, paying attention to the underlined words.
C. CO-CONSTRUCTION EXPLANATION:
1.
Ask students what they notice about the underlined words. Is there
a pattern?
2.
Ask why do words that end in O have EL
in front of them? What does EL mean?
3.
Why do words that end in A have LA
in front of them? What does LA mean?
D. EXTENSION ACTIVITY:
1.
Write a list of five places that they enjoy going.
2.
Compare lists with a partner.
3.
As a group, compile a list on the overhead of common places that students
like to go.
