GLY 160: Geology and the Human Environment
Fall 2006
SUNY College at Cortland
Department of Geology

Extra Credit Opportunity:

What you have to do:

You may earn extra credit by completing the on-line exercise called "Virtual River Flooding"
and turning in the "River Flooding Certificate of Completion".

In additon to earning extra credit, going through this exercise will help you learn and understand
river flooding concepts that will appear on the Final Exam for this class.

Give yourself about 1 hour to complete the whole exercise, and make sure you can print from the computer
you are using right after completing the exercise.....recall from the Virtual Earthquake assignment that it is not
easy to "save" the certificate to print later or from a different computer.  Nor can the certificates be emailed to me.

You MUST print out and turn in the Certificate with YOUR NAME (first and last) on it.

Before you begin, read their Computer and Operating System Requirments and check that you are using
not only the right operating system, but also the correct version of the listed web-browsers.
The on-campus computers should have adequate software.

What it is worth:

If you turn in the certificate, you will receive credit worth one in-class assignment.
So, if you are missing assignments due to unexcused absences, this will replace one.
If you have all the assignments in, you will get an extra one added to the in-class portion of your grade.
This works out to about 1% of your total semester average.

When it is due:

The Certificates are due by 4:00 PM Wednesday, November 29, 2006.  No exceptions.

I will accept them early.
If I'm not in my office when you want to turn it in, just slip it under my office door (Bowers room 325).

Good luck and have fun!
