Text: Linear Algebra and its Applications, Fifth Edition, by David C. Lay.
Goal:
The goal of this course is to introduce the students to the theory and applications of linear algebra and to illustrate the type of abstract thinking required in higher mathematics.
Assignments:
Homework problems intended to test and deepen your understanding of the
concepts presented in class will be assigned. These will be collected and graded. Sorry, no late homework
will be accepted.
Quizzes: You will have roughly eight 10-15 minute quizzes which will be given on Thursdays to test your understating of the material discussed the week before. These are tentatively scheduled for Sept 8, Sept 15, Sept 22, Oct 6, Oct 13, Oct 27, Nov 10, and Nov 17.
Sorry, no makeup quizzes will be given, but the lowest quiz score will be dropped.
Tests:
You will have 2 tests and a Final Exam. The exact dates for the tests will be announced in class
at least one week in advance, but for now the tests are tentatively scheduled for Sept 27 and Nov 1.

Content:
Topics covered include: Systems of Linear Equations, Matrix Algebra, Determinants, Vector Spaces, Linear Transformations, and Eigenvalues & Eigenvectors.

important and shows that you value your education and take it
seriously. By choosing to miss class without having a legitimate
excuse to do so, you forfeit your right to seek my help with
material discussed during your absence.

and do not let others think for you. On the other hand, quizzes and exams are to be strictly your own work.
