Text: Fundamentals of Differential Equations, Eighth Edition, by Nagle, Saff, and Snider
Course Outline: MAT430 Course Outline
Goals: Learning to solve, analyze, and apply differential equations.
Assignments:
- I will assign daily homework sets designed to reinforce the material presented
in class The assigned exercises represent the minimal amount of work you should do. Remember practice makes perfect, especially in Mathematics. These will not be collected.
- I will assign weekly homework sets which will test your understanding of the concepts presented in class and your ability to apply them. These will be collected and 1-2 problems will be chosen at random from each homework for grading. It is very important to note that the solutions to the problems will be graded in full, and just an answer will not earn any credit. Sorry, no late homework
will be accepted.
Quizzes: You will have roughly 8 short quizzes which will be given on Tuesdays to test your understating of the material discussed during the prior week. These are tentatively scheduled for Jan 30, Feb 6, Feb 13, Feb 20, March 6, March 27, April 10, April 17, and April 24.
Sorry, no makeup quizzes will be given, but the lowest quiz score will be dropped.
Tests:
You will have 2 tests and a Final Exam. The dates for the tests will be announced in class
at least one week in advance, but for now these are tentatively scheduled for Feb 27 and April 3.
Please see me in advance if you have a conflict with any of these times and we will make
appropriate arrangements.

Attendance Policy: Attendance is very
important and shows that you value your education and take it
seriously. By choosing to miss class without having a legitimate
excuse to do so, you forfeit your right to seek my help with
material discussed during your absence.
Honor Code
You are encouraged to discuss the homework with others but be an active participant
and do not let others think for you. On the other hand, exams are to be strictly your own work.
