Attending: LaVena Court, Linda Davern, Kathy Dennison, Joan Fleming, Carol Foster, Mary Frank, Nanna Fritts, Ethanie Holl, Pat McConnell, Carl and Rula Summers.

 

Nanna  Fritts called meeting to order at 7 PM.

 

  1. Ethanie Holl reported on the upcoming Haunted House (“The Haunted Toy Factory”) to be held in the Civic Center on Oct. 26-27 from 5-10 PM. This is the 4th year the event will benefit the library, and this year will also benefit area food pantries, with admission options of cash or household goods. Those interested in volunteering/donating can call the Holls (849-6849).
  2. Treasurer’s report was read and approved, with current balance of $890.74.
  3. Activities of 2007 were reviewed and approved:

a.       The Friends group currently consists of 53 members.

b.      Member benefits included preview book sales and an elegant appreciation dinner.

c.       The executive committee meets monthly except for July/Aug and Dec/Jan.

d.      The installation of a library lobby bulletin board, and local newspaper articles re library activities and new title accessions have increased awareness of library programs.

e.       Jim McConnell continues to provide online awareness through the Friends’ web site.

f.        Book group: Pat Whited continues to lead the monthly meeting.

g.       Adopt-an-author:  perhaps we want to focus attention on this during a specific time, i.e., National Library Week in April?

h.       Fundraising assistance: strawberry shortcake and cookie sales, bake sale, wreath sale, book sales, community garage sale.

i.         Friends have provided library help at the desk, with shelving, book sorting, etc., and provided grant money for the Libri Foundation acquisition of children’s books.

j.        A genealogy class (five sessions) was instructed by Joan Canella and funded by FPML.

k.   Three FPML programs were enjoyed during the year: Hanging of the Greens, Meet the Authors (John Buck and Christine Buckholz: The Orphan Home, and Australian storytelling with didgeridoo artist Paul Speight.

  1. New business:

a.       Election of officers for 2008: current slate of officers was nominated and elected.

b.      Remaining 2007 activities:

1.   wreath sales in November

2.   Nov. 26: Hanging of the Greens, 7 PM @ the library (punch provided, bring a snack).

c.       Holiday bake sale (date will be determined after checking the school schedule).
