Cooperative Learning Groups:

    Objectives and Obligations of Groups and Members:
    =================================================

Groups should meet weekly to exercise the class material (do
homework) and "discover" its meaning (experiment). The groups
may deliver (present to class) work done in common, at pre
specified times (five/ten minutes oral presentations). Based
on the material assigned, taught in class or given as readings,
periodical quizes will be given (weekly). Group homeworks and
presentations will NOT be graded; individual quizes/tests will.

However, participation in the groups will give the students
the right to take the quizes and course exams (i.e. if a
student does not participate in group work he/she may not
be able to take the intrasemestral and/or final exams). And
work group will also be considered as CLASS PARTICIPATION.

THIS IS A CONTRACT. IT MEANS THAT IN CLASS WE ARE ENFORCING
GROUP LEARNING AND STILL MAINTAINING INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTABILITY.
IF YOU CANNOT, DO NOT OR WILL NOT WORK IN GROUPS, SEE ME, THE
MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT CHAIR, OR THE DEAN, AT YOUR EARLIEST
CONVENIENCE TO TRY TO WORK OUT A MUTUALLY ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION.

                      FINAL NOTE:
                      ===========

Regarding the groups we form and their objectives/obligations:
1) If you need to change groups, come and see me or find someone in another
groups that wants to switch with you (and let me know of the changes).
2) If you are a commuter or non traditional student and have problems
with this arrangement, come and see me.
3) If we cannot solve a problem, then go see the Chair/Dean. Do not go to
them directly. They have too much work and must be used sparingly.
4) If you simply do not wish to work in groups because of a fundamental,
personal principle, we may work out an alternative arrangement. However, if
neither I, the Chair/Dean can, then this course is not for you. Not everyone
learns the same way nor teaches the same way.
Thanks
