Employment History

Dr. Jorge L. Romeu worked for a total of twenty years for SUNY: first, fourteen years as a Tenured Associate Professor of Statistics in the Department of Mathematics, at SUNY Cortland; and six years at SUNYIT, one as Part-Time Institutional Research Officer, and five as Operations Management faculty, in the Department of Management Science.

At SUNY Cortland (1985-1998):

Dr. Romeu taught mathematics, statistics and computer science, and developed research in applied statistics and in education. As a result of his papers and presentations, he obtained multiple travel support and research awards, from SUNY. In addition he received several grants from the US Air Force (AF), to work as a Summer Research Faculty in their Rome, NY Laboratory. For all this work, Dr. Romeu earned the prestigeous "Dr. Nuala McGann Dreschler" SUNY Award, consisting of one year of leave at Full Pay, through which he completed his doctoral dissertation.

However, Dr. Romeu received an unacceptably demeaning official Letter, that was very detrimental to his Hispanic background. Dr. Romeu discussed its implications in two newspaper articles, in Spanish, and in English.

As a result of this treatment, Dr. Romeu took early retirement in Dec. 1998. For his work as Educator and Researcher, he was granted the title: SUNY Associate Professor Emeritus.

At SUNYIT (SUNY Institute of Technology; 2011-2017) :

Dr. Romeu worked for one year as Part-Time Institutional Research Officer, and then six more years as Part-Time Operations Management faculty, in the Department of Management Science. There, Dr. Romeu taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Modeling and Optimization. He was recognized by his excellent teaching.

In 2017, Dr. Romeu lost his office key, and SUNYIT Administration saddled him with an outrageous $960+ Bill, for the "cost of key replacement". Dr. Romeu sued SUNYIT in the Utica City Court.

The office, of the New York State Attorney General, having heard of the case, approached Dr. Romeu and offered him an out-of-court settlement, which Dr. Romeu accepted. Through this settlement, Dr. Romeu paid SUNYIT only $120 for the replacement of both, his office and the Management Department office door keys, and SUNYIT left him alone.
