Captain Raymond Ferguson, Co. E

The photograph on this page was sent to me in December 2002 by Anne W. Brown, who is a great-great-granddaughter of Raymond Ferguson. The picture and the information appear here with her permission.

In the email to which the photograph was attached Anne said:

. . . [A]ttached is a .jpg of my great great grandfather, Raymond Ferguson, Captain, Co. E, 12th NY Cav. His life ended tragically. According to affadavits in his pension file, he became an alcoholic during the war. His father-in-law promised to look after Ferguson's wife and three daughters, but only if he permanently disappeared. He did. Twenty years later—as soon as his father-in-law had died—he reappeared for a day and a night, and then vanished forever.

The photo was taken by J. H. Abbott of Albany.

All rights to the photograph reside with Anne W. Brown. My sincere thanks to you, Anne, for allowing me to use it in this web site.
