The Benson Road Cemetery

The Benson Road Cemetery is also known as the Cuddeback Cemetery. It is located on the east side of Benson Road about half way between the intersections of Benson Road with Baptist Corners Road and Hencoop Road. The total distance from the Village of Skaneateles is just slightly over 4 miles.

Wood (Onondaga County Cemetery Inscriptions, Clyde B. Wood, 1961) calls this cemetery the Cuddeback Cemetery. He copied his data on 13 August, 1960. Anklin & Spain (The Benson Street Cemetery, Skaneateles, N.Y., Karen Richards Anklin and Barbara Bendall Spain, 1989) found essentially the same collection of stones as Wood and have documented several of them with photographs.

Since I have not visited the site, I have restricted myself to presenting their material with a minimum of comment. In each listing I have added a first column with numbers in order to make it easier for referencing. I have also added a last column to indicate the corresponding entry in the opposite list.

Located about 6 miles south of the village of Skaneateles, in a wooded area on the east side of Benson Road, between Baptist Church and Hencoop roads. In the town of Skaneateles, Onondaga Co. N.Y. Copied 13 Aug 1960 by Clyde B. Wood.

After MUCH searching, and searching, and searching, I have located the cemetery where Stephen Foote is buried (or interred). I had contacted Pat Blackler, Skaneateles Village Historian for assistance in obtaining a copy of the Benson Road Cemetery records after I learned from http://web.cortland.edu/woosterk/bensonrd.html that Stephen's father, mother, second wife, and their two sons are buried there.
I read through the wonderful newspapers at http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html from the links that you sent and I also found this:
THE AUBURN BULLETIN, THURSDAY MAY 13, 1886
The remains of Stephen Foote, which have been in a Fort Hill vault since April 11, [1886 ] have been taken out for transfer to Skaneateles where they will be interred.

Fort Hill did not have additional records as to which cemetery in Skaneateles, and I looked through many, before finding 'his family" at Benson Road Cemetery. Pat's research showed "Stephen Foot" and Eleanor, his wife who is listed as "Eleanor Foot," in the cemetery records also, but the gravestone pictures Pat copied show "Eleanor Foote." I have found both spellings in my research, often for Timothy and now and again for Stephen on census records. I've been told that census recorders would often write their interpretation of how a name would be spelled, so I look at anything that is close.
Do you think this is sufficient information to include Stephen Foote with his family:

He was born March 11, 1807 in Skaneateles, NY according to the "Foote Family Book Vol. 1" page 367. I can send you the online link for this if you would like me to.
And he died in Auburn, NY April 8, 1886 according to articles in the Auburn newspapers and the Skaneateles NY Free Press.
I am so glad he is with his family! Perhaps other researchers would find this information helpful also.
