Bachlors Creek May 10th 1864

Dear Mother
I received your letter of the 26th
and was glad to hear that you
were all well there has been a
large force of rebs down here
but they did not trouble us
much they get disappointed
about getting their ram down
here there was fifteen or 20
thousand of them just outside
the gully they came up and
shelled rocky run but did
not stay long we had our howitzers
there to shell them back
I was down to Camp Palmer
last Sunday and saw jim
he is well and Howser is the
same guess we will get payed
off pretty soon we are
having pretty warm
weather here now So
[page break]
good by for this time
from your affectionate
Son
