LITTLE FALLS
WILLIS GREENE SERVED COUNTRY IN CIVIL WAR
Death of Veteran Occurred on Memorial Day—Had one of most up-to-date Farms in Vicinity.
Little Falls, May 31 [probably 1921].—The Memorial Day observance was saddened by the news of the death of one of the veterins of the Civil War. Willis Greene died at his home on the Indian Castle Road. For two weeks his condition has been critical, due to an attack of pneumonia. Mr Greene was born at Indian Castle September 11, 1840, the son of Lyman and Mollie Greene. He was a gentleman of the old school, kindly and hopsitable in manner and of a genial and pleasant disposition. With the exception of the time that he served the Nation, he was a farmer all his life. His farm was one of the most up-to-date of any in the vicinity he also ran a large truck gardening business, shipping goods to all parts of the State, In winter his greenhouses supplied many local markets. Mr. Greene was prominent in Republican political circles, though he never sought for or held any office. He was a member of the local Galpin Post, G.A.R., having served in Company A of the Twelfth New York Cavalry. He married Miss Harter on February 20, 1876, who survives. One son, Lyman and one granddaughter, Margaret, also survive. The funeral will be held at 2 in the afternoon Sunday. The Rev.B. E. Fake of Fort Plain will officiate and interment will be made in St. Johnsville.
