April 10, 2001, I received the following email from Audrey Johnson Beegle AudBobby@aol.com:

Good morning from Daytona Beach, FL.:
I was just browsing through the Dutchess County site and found my great-grandfather, Brownell W. Lee, under the 12th Regiment New York Volunteer Cavalry. Just an added note: Brownell was also in the following: "Enlisted from Dutchess County, NY, on the 24th of October 1861 to serve three years or during the war, and was mustered into the United States service at New York City, on the 4th of November, 1861 as a private of Capt. Edward P. Mount's Co. "H", 61st regiment NY Volunteer Infantry. Brownell W. Lee was wounded by gunshot in left breast at Malvern Hill, Va., July 1st l861, was captured at the same battle and on the fourth of the same month was confined in Libby Prison, Richmond, Va., where he remained for three months. He received an honorable discharge at Falmouth, Va., on 24th of November 1862, by reason of Surgeon's certificate of Disability. He re-enlisted at Unionvale, NY on the 17th of January 1864."
This information was obtained from a copy of Certificate of Membership filed with the Soldiers and Sailors Historical and Benevolent Society in Washington, D.C. dated 8 August 1902 and sent to me by Brownell's grandson and Brownell's pension papers.
I want to thank you for the work you have done. I wish it had been available when I first started to look for Brownell.
Yours, Audrey Johnson Beegle
