Examples:

-In elementary classrooms, children's behaviors can be disruptive to theteacher, but enjoyed by the students. So, the teacher will put the child in "timeout" when the disruptive behavior occurs. This area is out of sight ofother children and is used in short, pre-determined blocks of time.

-In a low functioning self-contained class, one child continues to bang herfist in the desk. The teacher first warns the girl to stop, but she continues,the next time, the girl is put in "time out" for a few minutes, sothat the other children can continue to learn.
