Intermittent Schedule of Reinforcement

An intermittent schedule of reinforcement occurs when only some of thedesired responses are rewarded. It may sometimes be difficult to predict when a rewardwill occur.

Example

Gamblers who continue to play games of chance despite only occasionalwinnings.

There are two major types of schedules of intermittent reinforcement: interval schedules are based on passageof time andratio schedules are based on the number ofresponses.
