I. OBJECTIVES:
(1.1, 4.2)- Students discuss pastimes in our country and Spanish
speaking countries. Compare and contrast.
(1.2, 2.1)- Listen to a cassette of interviews; identify and
understand pastimes of native speakers.
(1.3)- Students create or find material outside of the classroom
related to pastimes and present it to the class.
II. MATERIALS:
-Charts
-Tape recorder
-Tape of interviews
III. PROCEDURES:
PRE-LISTENING:
1. As a class, we will discuss what pastimes
are.
2. Discuss our favorite pastimes.
3. Discuss what some pastimes might be in
Spanish speaking countries, that are different than what we might enjoy.
i.e.: bull fights,
soccer, dominos
IDENTIFY MAIN ELEMENTS:
1. Listen to cassette of interviews.
Each person interviewed discusses their personal favorite pastimes, where
they go to practice those, and when they practice them.
2. Using chart, students will check off the
pastimes that are mentioned during the interview.
IDENTIFY DETAILS:
1. Listen to the tape a second time.
2. Using chart, students will check off the
places where the pastimes are practiced, and when they are practiced.
ORGANIZE/REVISE:
1. Students will compare the completed chart
with a partner.
2. We will discuss the chart as a class.
RECREATE TEXT:
1. Students will interview two classmates
about pastimes. (See speaking lesson.)
REACT TO TEXT:
1. Make a poster in Spanish that advertises
a pastime.
2. Look for a web site in Spanish that relates
to a pastime.
