I. OBJECTIVES
1.2 Students see a video and listen to a CD and understand
the information provided.

III. PROCEDURES
A. Preparation
1. Introduce the topic by asking students to compare their life with
that of their parents and grandparents at the same age. What is similar?
What is different? Encourage students to focus on technological advances
and list them on the overhead.
2. Discuss Venezuelan society. Ask students if they think it
has developed as the United States has. Why / why not?
3. Introduce the three people they will hear describing the changes
in Caracas and the technologies that they use regularly.
B. Comprehension
1. Show the video, "La vida de ayer," to the students.
2. Ask students to give a title for each section, based on what they
understand and remember. List the suggestions on the overhead and
ask students why they think it's appropriate. As a class, have students
pick the best title for each section from those listed.
C. Interpretation
1. Show the video again (or play the CD) and have students listen
for more detail. They will complete the worksheet based on what they
hear.
2. Display correct answers on the overhead and answer any questions.
D. Application
1. In small groups, students will create a list of the technology
they use in their daily lives. They will put these on a poster to
share with the rest of the class. They will also explain the influence
of this technology in their lives. What would they do if they did
not
have the use of these technologies. How would their lives be different?
Each group will share its thoughts with the class.
E. Extension
1. Students will interview members of the staff and community who
have lived in Medina for 20+ years, asking them what Medina was like in
the past and if, in their opinion, the city is better now than back then.
They will then write a paragraph to summarize the interview.
