Required Hardware (if any):

When I first came to SUNY at Cortland , I didn't request for a microphone to be used on a computer. It seems necessary for me to use one when I am in the office, which is shared with and divided among two other professors. I don't want to disturb them while I'm working with the multi-media software.

Use by Students:

Class(es) and Number of students enrolled:

EDU 375 Teaching Elementary Social Studies: 50 students enrolled in sessions 601 and 602 (available to 150 students per semester)

EDU 640 Conflicts and Controversy in Social Education: 15 enrolled

How will your request fulfill SCAP guidelines to benefit students by increasing their personal hands-on access to computing, computing equipment, and instructional applications of computing?

All of the EDU 375 classes and EDU 640 will have access to all of the requested software. This software will be catalogued and stored into a locked file cabinet. Designated time will be provided for students to check out from the responsible instructor for a limited period of time while using the software for a specific course project. EDU 375 is a required course for Early Childhood/Childhood Education Department, therefore we will continue to use these ordered software in the future. There is a significant portion of EDU 375 that is devoted to technology integration into social studies curriculum. So software listed above will enhance learning experiences of students in the programs across the Early Childhood/Childhood Education Department. These software will be used directly by the instructors and students and have a maximum impact on students' access to technology. Students will acquire essential knowledge of technology by the exposure to the software

If you are requesting software for a particular computer lab, please specify which lab

Software requested are not for a particular computer lab.

Additional Comments:

I would really appreciate your consideration of ordering the software, which will greatly enhance students' learning experiences to integrate technology into elementary social studies as well as other subjects. Thank you for reviewing this application.

Department Chair Comments:

This would be a beneficial addition to enrich the methods block and graduate program with appropriate technology. Over the course of the year, approximately 300 students would have access to the software. The department will match funds provided by SCAP, but cannot meet all the current requests for technology/software upgrades. – Dr. Cynthia Benton at *2707 or bentonc@cortland.edu
