You are asked to make a learning center for elementary students.
Checklist for making a social studies learning center:
__ Choose a grade level and a topic for focus.
__ Determine a desired student outcome(s) for the activities at the learning center. Creating a learning center with a cross-curricular emphasis is encouraged.
__ Create one interactive activity for each targeted outcome represented at your center. This can be an individual game, a cooperative activity or group project that will be highlighted at the learning center. You should have a total of two choices of activities at your center. Each choice should be different in nature (for example, one game, one independent activity and/or one project that should be completed with a small group of students).
__ Determine an assessment option for at least one of the activities that will be highlighted at the learning center. This can be a student-based self-assessment or an assessment used by a teacher.
__ Choose the format for displaying the learning center. The learning centers can be constructed to be stored in boxes, on free-standing bulletin boards, or on free-standing display boards. Other options are welcome but please review your ideas with me if they are different than these listed.
__ Construct the learning center in an attractive, motivating way. Remember to think of students' interests and use materials that will encourage students to engage in all activities represented at the center.
__ Include all directions and materials necessary for twenty students to use the learning center. There will be no more than two students at the learning center at one time.
