Web-Based Portfolio Assignment

Web-based Electronic Portfolio Assignment

A web-based electronic portfolio is meant to showcase what you have learned through the educational experiences that you've had as a pre-service teacher. Your portfolio is not to serve as a mass of artifacts portraying the projects that you've completed. Rather, your portfolio should offer viewers a carefully selected set of items that best represent your learning enhanced with corresponding reflections on why each selection was made.

The purpose of this assignment is to establish a web-based portfolio to communicate and electronically publish artifacts that well document your success in reaching each of the 5 Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) professional standards. It is important that you select artifacts that best represent what you deem as your most important learning experiences that correspond to each of the throughout your experiences as a MST student.

Assignment description:

For this assignment, you are asked to create a web site that will serve as an electronic portfolio to showcase what you've learned throughout your early experiences as an emerging educator and how each of your learning experiences corresponds to each of the 5 ACEI standards. Although there will be some in-class time provided to work on this project, it will be impossible to complete this project in its entirety in class. Therefore, it will be necessary for you to work on this project outside of class. It is important for you to know that the Memorial Library's Information Literacy Program offers workshops on web page design if you need additional assistance.

9.      Complete your portfolio and be sure to view it on a PC and Mac platform to review what your audience will see.

10.  Be sure that your site is working properly and prepare to present your portfolio presentation.

11.  Present your portfolio to a small group of students and receive feedback .

12.  Use the peer feedback you've gathered from your presentation (step 12) and present your final electronic portfolio during finals week. The date and time of your portfolio presentation will be provided when the final exam schedule is posted.

Please note:

Your web-based portfolio assignment will be assessed using two different grades. One grade will be determined through a series of short-answer questions that will be distributed following your final electronic portfolio presentation. The short-answer questions will be based on the inquiry into technology that has been discussed in large and small group conversations in class and through your exploration of technology as a teaching tool. Ten points of your final portfolio grade will be based on this short-answer exercise. The other grade that you will receive for your portfolio assignment will be based on a criterion that ensures a solid web-site design. The criteria are outlined on the rubric that corresponds to this assignment.
