Here are the notes from
this past week in class:
Students implemented Peer
Teaching lessons so they could gain experience with planning,
writing, implementing and reflecting on lesson plans and lesson
plan design. It was interesting to learn about all of our
students' talents and exciting to see so many varied topics
throughout the classroom.
Remember, it is vitally
important to plan as much as we possibly can for our teaching.
Keep in mind the saying: Thou shall not wing it! This is so
important because it is critical that we spend time considering
all that we as teachers do so we can work toward maximizing all
students' learning.
The lesson plan that was
reviewed in our class embedded differentiated instruction. In
our class, I discussed that we would first learn about this by
considering different ways that students might have strengths
when it comes to processing information. Some of the students
that we will teach will be effective at visually processing
information while others will be better at auditory or tactile
processing. It's important that we create our lessons with that
in mind. So, we often use different modalities when we teach so
we can have all students benefit.
In class, we reviewed how
to write a lesson plan. I reviewed Bloom's Taxonomy and the
importance of clearly identifying exactly what you want students
to learn. This sounds so simple but is often difficult to write
as a concise statement. Bloom's taxonomy often helps with this.
Please review Bloom's Taxonomy when you can by reviewing the
notes from Feb. 5th.
For more information on
differentiated learning, you may want to take a free, electronic
seminar or at least view a few free video clips regarding what
differentiated instruction is and how to implement this theory
into classrooms. Please visit this website for this information:

That's all for this week.
Keep reading, keep learning and keep coming to class!
