Assignment description and corresponding grading rubric:

You are to plan and implement a fifteen-minute lesson for a small or large group of students that will be videotaped during your field placement experience. The lesson can be one that is required for another MST course. After teaching your videotaped lesson, watch it and write a three to five page double spaced reflection and analysis paper of your teaching experience and of students’ learning.

For this assignment, you must submit:

What did you plan would happen first, next and last? How did you plan to accommodate all students? What research/resources did you use to inform your plan for teaching students?

     Analysis:
Write to explain your critical examination of your planning and preparation. Answer questions including: Why did you plan to teach the lesson the way that you did? What did you learn from planning and preparing for teaching your lesson? What might you do differently when planning for future lessons? What educational research topic could you investigate that could inform your future planning?

2. The Classroom Environment
     Reflection:
Write a detailed description of your host classroom and the setting of your lesson. After watching your videotaped lesson, answer questions including: What did you do to facilitate a cohesive classroom environment? How did you attempt to accomplish student interaction? What did you do to facilitate smooth transitions? What strategies did you use to keep the students’ attention?

     Analysis:

What oral and written language did you use? What questioning and discussion techniques did you use? What did you do to ensure that all student voices were heard? What feedback did you provide students? What have you learned from reading research on teaching that informed some of the decisions you made?

    Analysis:

After watching your videotaped lesson, answer questions including: How well did you communicate clearly and accurately with students? Why did you use the questioning and discussion techniques that you used? How well did you engage students in learning? Were adjustments made to your instruction while you were teaching? If so, why? What did you change/modify during instruction time? What educational research topics might you investigate in the future to assist with future teaching?

4. Professional Responsibilities and Development
