Partnership with a Local Elementary School
Throughout the time that I have been at SUNY Cortland, I have
worked to establish a partnership with a local elementary school so my
students can begin to make connections from text-based knowledge to
practical experience working with elementary students.
The slideshow below shows pictures of my EDU 375 students working with
elementary students at Math and Social Studies Learning Centers. During
my first year as a faculty member, I
worked with another professor to create this assignment so students
could begin to understand the importance of integrating more than one
subject area into lessons. Although I no longer work with that faculty
member, I still require students to complete this assignment because
students continually mention that they didn't understand the curricular
connection between math and social studies prior to completing the
activity. In the pictures below, you will see 2nd and 3rd
grade students working in pairs at different learning centers that were
set up at the Children's Museum.
