Madison County Civil War Units
12th N.Y. Vol. Inf. Reg. - Co. G
Recruited principally in Canastota

This is a roster of Company G, copied from page 406 of Clayton's History of Onondaga County, 1878. It should be noted that this roster was probably taken from the initial muster rolls from 1861. That a person's name is missing from this list does not necessarily mean he was not in the unit. A more complete compilation can be found in pages 1 - 212 of New York (State) Adjutant-General's Office Annual Report for the Year 1899. No. 19. Albany, NY: J. B. Lyon, 1900.

* I had an email message 3 January 2000, from Michael Shaw, a great-great-grandson of Henry W. Brooks. He told me that Henry was 34 at time of enlistment and came from Lenox. In a second message the following day, Michael informed me that Henry W. Brooks died 29 September 1921 at the Old Soldiers Home in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He had enlisted twice, once in 1861 and again in 1862, each time for a period of six months.
