More on Commissary Sergeant Lucius H. Hoyt (Co. I)

    Dept. of Virginia & No. Carolina
    Prisoner of War at Newbern NC September 20, 1864
    Confined at Florence SC and Wilmington NC
    Paroled in March 1865
The cross in the lower right quadrant of the shield is the badge of XVIII Corps.
The coat of arms of New York State is at the center of the shield.
