Assignment 5
Before your next class:
2. Work through the lesson on Identifying pedagogical goals, objectives & outcomes. This is very important and wil be needed for future projects.Continue practicing image editing techniques. Experiment with different photo editing techniques until you are happy with your results. Learning to manipulate this software takes time and much practice. Doing each exercise just once will not make you an expert!
Continue working with your web design, especially links and tables.
Try working with sound, just to get a feel for how your own equipment works. If you can get sound into your first project, that's great. If not, that's ok.
Log onto your Blackboard / eLearning space for ICC 523. Look under the DISCUSSIONS tab in the left hand column, and follow instructions to contribute to the Sherry Turkle - Alone Together discussion of the online video (She is a researcher at MIT in the psychological effects of online communication.):
http://www.ted.com/talks/sherry_turkle_alone_together.html
Listen to Sherry Turkle's TED Talk about her book, "Alone Together: Why we expect more from technology and less from each other." She gives many examples of some negative effects of technology on us as human beings.
What do you think about her findings?
Do her examples remind you of things you have seen?
If adolescents tend to be particularly fragile psychologically, might some of the effects of technology represent a problem for some students?
Should we, as teachers, be concerned about possible bad effects of encouraging the use of phones, texting, tweets, etc. in our courses?
Make comments, and, of course, respond to others.
