Model Description
Strategic, personal management of school work can be promoted through
explicit teaching.
Specification of Theory
(a) Goals and preconditions
- To develop teachers potential as innovators, problem solving and experiential
learners.
- The importance of self regulation and adequate time are necessary.
(b) Principles
- Self regulated learning supports improved content area competence.
- Research can and should be linked with practice. A researcher and teacher
should work together.
(c) Condition of learning
- Supporting student pursuit of learning goals.
- Contextualized professional development that focuses on inquiry and
invention.
- Learning skills and knowledge in a real world context. The theory defines
10 principles of effective professional development.

(e) Role of facilitator
- To develop their own models of self regulation to teach to students.
- Provide a framework for the students to work within the instructional
module. Serve as a coach for students in need of assistance.
(f) Instructional strategies
- Provide explicit instruction in planning self-monitoring and resource
management.
- Differentiate instruction for students of varying ability. Scaffold
learning for student having difficulty.
- Demonstrate Self Regulated learning in multiple contexts.
(g) Assessment method
- Focus grading of student work on the qualitative aspects of student
work.
- Encourage students to set criteria and select assignments.
- Final assessment should deal with the students real world situations
