Internship Program
Participation in the college's internship program is strongly encouraged of all students in the Communication Studies Department. We have an extensive program where students gain experience in the field at locations on-campus and troughout the country. Student interns have been placed in organizations such as MTV, ABC, WTVH, FOX, Disney World, VIACOM, and the American Red Cross. Students can receive up to 16 credit hours towards graduation through the internship program. Most internships are unpaid experiences, however some do carry a stipend. SUNY Cortland has also placed students at the Maury Povich Show, David Letterman, Gold Public Relations (NYC), Warner Brothers casting department (NYC), and Madison Square Garden. Several businesses in the Cortland community offer the opportunity to do an internship while attending classes, such as the Holiday Inn, WKRT AM, Tourism Department, Cortland Chamber of Commerce, and The Sunday Democrat. While not required for graduation, students are strongly encouraged to participate. More than 70 percent of communications students take advantage of this opportunity.
