Week 9 October 24th & 26th
Using Special Features of MS Word to Enliven Your Instruction

To do this week

We are going to create three products using MS Word: wordart acrostic, educationl handouts with border, shading or fill effect, and trading cards. Publish the products to your eportfolio website. And HAVE FUN!

1. Product #1 Word Acrostic

On the first week of school, WordArt Acrostics can be a great exercise. It will give everyone a chance to talk about themselves in a vocab-building and creative way! You can turn this into a community-building project by asking students to interview each other and then come up with words that describe their partner. Print these out on a color printer and create an exciting class bulletin board...

Adjectives

Having trouble thinking of good, creative adjectives? Check out this list of great character trait adjectives from a lesson about Character Traits at READĦ¤WRITEĦ¤THINK?

Sample Character Traits

Can't seem to find just the right word for your letter? Try using Merriam-Webster's online thesaurus!? You might even have more fun with Visual Thesaurus!

Remember that you don't have to stop with students' names. You can ask students to create WordArt Acrostics for their favorite characters in books and to explain why they chose that set of traits for that character.

Online: Another way to interest students in Acrostics is READĦ¤WRITEĦ¤THINK's online acrostic tool and lesson plans:
